Led by his self-taught eye and carefully calibrated aesthetic instincts, Gabriel Moses’ (b. 1998, South London) photographs and films are marked by their Baroque essence and brooding colorways. His compositions prioritize the human figure in richly textured geometric settings, imbuing each scene with a sense of humanity and collective memory. Moses’ devotion to portraiture stems from his early interest in black-and-white ancestral photography. Citing the work of Gordon Parks and Malick Sidibé, he draws on both his South London roots and Nigerian heritage to create compositions that examine the intersection of personal histories and cultural utopia.

Moses made his directorial debut at the age of 18 when he was invited to work for Nike. Shortly thereafter, he became the youngest photographer to shoot a cover for Dazed magazine. Since then, his artistic career has been punctuated by experimental films, design collaborations, and fashion photography. His first solo exhibition, Regina, was held in April 2023 at London’s 180 Studios, consisting of fifty images and two films spanning his expansive oeuvre through spheres of sports, fashion, and music.
